Our Beginning
Berea Baptist Church began in 1955 as a mission church of First Baptist Church of Little Rock. Eight years later, on January 27, 1963, Berea Baptist Church was officially organized. Dr. S.A. Whitelow, Secretary of Missions and Treasurer for the Baptist State Convention presided. Bro. Marvin Boswell, who had served as Mission Pastor for almost five years, was elected as pastor of Berea Baptist Church.
The session was opened with the song "To God Be the Glory" led by Royce Weeks. Bro. Dawson King led the congregation in prayer and Rev. R.H. Dorris, moderator of the North Pulaski Baptist Association, gave a welcome message to the newly formed church. The sermon was brought by Dr. Paul Roberts, pastor of First Baptist Church of Little Rock, and the benediction was given by Bro. Winifred Hammons.
In our first report to the Association, Berea Baptist Church reported 154 members with 200 in Sunday School. We had 119 in Vacation Bible School and 121 in Training Union. We reported 5 Royal Ambassadors, 8 members of Brotherhood, and 55 girls and women enrolled in the W.M.U
